Your Interviews Aren’t Broken—But AI Might Be the Coach You Didn’t Know You Needed
Why AI In Interviews Is Quietly Becoming a TA Team’s MVP
Let me ask ya somethin’...
If your interviews were a hockey team, would they be playoff contenders…
…or just runnin’ the same three plays from the ’98 playbook and wonderin’ why the scoreboard’s lookin’ like a crime scene?
Now, don’t get me wrong, most interviews ain’t total dumpster fires.
But let’s not give ourselves a medal for "not terrible."
Let’s break down why AI in interviews isn’t here to replace your job.
It’s here to help you show up better when it counts most.
SECTION 1: AI Makes the Interview More Human, Not Less
1. No More Furious Note-Taking
No more scribblin’ like you’re drawing a treasure map. Real-time transcription captures it all, so you can actually talk to the human in front of you.
I’m not takin’ notes anymore. I’m havin’ conversations.
2. Smarter Questions—Without the Brain Fog
Now listen here…
Before you hop on that Zoom call actin’ like you’re wingin’ it on America’s Got Interviews, let’s pump the brakes and do a little somethin’ called preparation.
Take that job description you got, yeah, the one you skimmed during lunch, and build yourself a solid lineup of questions.
Why? Because when every candidate gets the same foundational questions, that’s called interview fairness.
That’s right. Fair-ness.
It ain’t just a buzzword, it’s how grown-ups run a process. If something pops up in the interview thats more interesting than a cow giving a presentation on nuclear fission in a corn field, ask some probing questions.
And if you’re sittin’ there goin’,
“Well, Jason, I just don’t know what to ask…”
Let me help you help yourself.
Use somethin’ like ChatGPT.
Or if you’re usin’ Phenom, we’ve got a little goodie called “AI Suggested Questions.”
It’s like your grandma’s pie: warm, reliable, and full of good stuff you didn’t have to make yourself.
Now, while you’re already puttin’ in some effort, go ahead and whip up a scorecard too.
Put some actual structure around it. Know what a good answer sounds like versus the kind of nonsense you’d find printed under a Snapple cap.
Let me give you a little example:
Instead of askin’:
“Are you a self-starter?”
(Well shoot, who’s gonna say no to that? Even your lazy cousin who still lives in your Aunt’s basement would say yes.)
Try this on for size:
“How have you structured marketing analytics and reporting frameworks? Can you share an example of a report or dashboard you created to drive executive-level decisions?”
See that?
That’s a direct question. And it gets a direct answer.
You can’t fake that.
You can’t fluff that up like the wool on that blue-ribbon sheep at the county fair.
You either know it or you don’t.
And that, my friend, is how you separate the candidates from the contestants.
SECTION 2: AI Exposes Interview Habits You Didn’t Know Were Hurtin’ You
Here’s what AI sees that you might not:
You talk 80% of the time
You asked three forgettable questions
You probed men more than women
You ghosted half the candidates on follow-ups
Oof.
But here’s the thing: AI isn’t here to cancel you, it’s here to correct you.
SECTION 3: The Recruiter-as-Connector, Powered by AI
The best recruiters aren’t note-takers, they’re connectors. And AI gives you the time, space, and clarity to do it right.
Be more present
Capture better stories
Ask better follow-ups
Stop guessin’ at 7 PM what “team 3/13??” even meant
SECTION 4: Interview AI in Action—Not Sci-Fi, Just Smart Ops
This ain’t the Jetsons.
It’s already integrated with:
Zoom & Teams
ATS & feedback forms
CRMs like Phenom
And it gives you:
Tagged skills & insights
Talk-time coaching
Actionable improvements
You don’t need to rebuild.
Just refine.
Final Thoughts
Let me land this plane with some truth:
Your company already has good people.
AI just helps ‘em show up better in the moments that matter.
If you care about:
Candidate experience
Consistency
Human connection
Then stop actin’ like AI’s some monster under the bed.
It’s the dang mattress supportin’ everything you do.
Now get out there and interview like you mean it.
